Reds Forced Out of Grodno

Reds evacuated Grodno after Bolshevik capture of Grodno forts on the Nieman south bank. South of the Pripet the communication says troops counter attacked driving the enemy from Rzezytsa Kachuka Vola and Jeziercy. The enemy remains passive along the Styr line south of this region after heavy losses in fruitless assaults. Battles with cavalry near Grodno turn favorable in the Dubno area as large enemy forces crossing the Shyhara near Clonim press near Rozany.

Possible general coal strike looms after Illinois action

Indianapolis July 24 John L. Lewis president of the United Mine Workers warned that any settlement of the Illinois field strike that alters the interstate agreement could trigger a nationwide shutdown of all Central field bituminous mines. He said the move would involve about 210000 miners unless national officers act to enforce an immediate stoppage.

Convict Returns to Pen After Eighteen Months on the Loose

Floyd Cox who escaped from the state penitentiary in Rawlins eighteen months ago after serving a year of a six year sentence for burglary has been recaptured in Oklahoma and brought back to Rawlins. Six months into his escape Cox was recaptured but escaped again from the officer transporting him. Three other convicts fled with him but were quickly caught.

Robinson to Leave State Pen After Escape

Sheriff reports L. J. Robinson fled Rawlins penitentiary after serving seven to ten years for stealing David Howell's car. It marks the third Laramie county escape in six months, with William Smith and William Loftus previously eluding recapture. Robinson was known in Cheyenne as Jack and had worked at the Dildine garage.

Rioting at Bedford Women’s Reformatory Sparks Firelight Clash

Inmates at the Bedford New York state reformatory for women staged a major riot starting in the laundry and spreading to all cottages. About 150 participated, with knives and flatirons used as weapons. Troopers and police restored order as several inmates were injured and three escaped. Pulsations of a pulmotor save man after electric shock

In Thermopolis Wyoming on July 23 H B Morgan of Hot Springs Light & Power survived a near fatal electric shock when a few thousand volts passed through his body. A man named Miller slipped on a damp floor at the power house and touched a high tension wire. His fall broke the short circuit and is credited with saving the life. Morgan remains in serious condition but is expected to recover.

Co operative Markets Plan For Handling Livestock And Grain

The American Farm Bureau Federation finished its session by approving a livestock co operative marketing plan and receiving the grain plan favorably. A permanent grain committee based in Chicago will study existing schemes and seek new ideas with J R Howard leading it. The federation aims to secure freight cars, push uniform rates, praise the FTC, and support deep waterway projects. U S Grain Growers signaled an August Columbus convention.

Miss Mollie Collins Captures Desperate Jail Escaper

Miss Mollie Collins of Kemmerer armed with a .45 revolver intercepted fugitive Dutch Miller at midnight in Kemmerer. Miller, 22, suspected of burglarizing the Dave Nelson home for $700, was brought back to Lincoln County jail with Miller held as the suspect and Mrs H R Soaper as a witness.
