On July 24 the Wig steel steamer Eastland capsized in the Chicago River near the wharf with about 2,600 aboard. The death toll neared 1,500 to 2,000 as crews searched the hull and river, while federal and city investigators ponder ballast and weight distribution causes.
Cheyenne celebrates Marold Brinker hailed as hero for beating the fastest Union Pacific train in a cross country auto race from Denver to Cheyenne. Denver guests, business leaders, and Brinker supporters flocked to the Union Depot and Proutley grounds to honor the victory, with Brinker finishing ahead by under two minutes.
The nineteenth annual Frontier Days finale crowns multiple world champions including Harry Walters of Mulhall Oklahoma as Rough Rider and Trick Rider. Ed Lindsey of Monument New Mexico wins Bulldogger and Lady Broncho titles, Joella Irwin of Cheyenne earns Woman Relay Kilted, George Weir of Monument claims Steer Roper, with prize money totals ranging from 100 to 1000 dollars and the Denver Post Loving Cup awarded to the top overall.
Cheyenne cheered Frontier Days as the second largest crowd ever, with a four day show drawing visitors from every state and abroad. Automobiles from across the nation boosted attendance, while locals from Wyoming and Colorado joined in, praising the city’s beauty, commerce, and hospitality.
Oklahoma rider Harry Walters of Mulhall was proclaimed world champion bronc rider after a hard finals at Frontier Park drawing 12 000 cheering fans. George Weir of New Mexico won steer roping with 37 seconds average, while Lindsay family dominates multiple events including ladies bucking and relay wins.
A local family gathering took place on a Sunday in Cheveone with relatives from Vielany and Consiner attending. The event focused on community ties and shared meals, highlighting family bonds in a rural setting.
