Spokane reports four men suffocated in a mine mouth fleeing fires near Kaslo B C. Two women died as rescuers battled near the Lucky Jim mine. The same blaze destroyed multiple mine buildings and homesteads, with Miss Pearl Brewen’s cabin surrounded by fire and an arson arrest stirring lynching threats.
Twelve Washington men aged 12 to 49 received morning hearings by magistrate for playing poker in Canton township yesterday afternoon. They spread a newspaper on the road and blocked traffic with carts and buggies until stopped by three policemen. Two hundred dollars in the pot was seized by police as evidence.
Philadelphia July 18 General Manager Meyers of the Pennsylvania railroad and the committee representing 16000 trainmen and conductors east of Pittsburgh reached a wage settlement basis after six months of negotiations culminating in a strike vote.
