Deportation Clash as 1100 Men Reach Hermanas

District Attorney J S Vaught and Sheriff Simpson accompanied by fifty deputies arrived in Luna County New Mexico to arrest the 1100 Bisbee deportees and move them to Columbus until final disposition. A Bisbee attorney introduced officials and assured fair treatment as the men organized a self policed guard to maintain order. General Bell ordered rations for the deported men at Columbus and directed Colonel Sickel to transport them, stating they would not be prisoners.
