A 20 000 word report declares New Haven directors criminally negligent for mismanagement and waste. Losses estimated between 60 and 90 billion dollars insolvent, with violations sent to district attorneys in Massachusetts Rhode Island and New York and to the federal justice department.
Senator Reed of Missouri told the Senate on July 18 that the interstate commerce and judiciary committees should jointly draft trust legislation to consolidate pending measures. His push was followed by further attacks from other judiciary committee members amid reports of earlier unsuccessful cooperation efforts.

Pittsburg July 13. The Westinghouse strike ended when about 8,000 workers returned to the shops. All plants reopened on full time and most strikers were rehired. only two or three hundred vacancies remain. Deputy sheriffs guarded the electric works but were to be recalled later.
Boston July 14 Captain John H. Thomas commander of the five master schooner George P Hudson and two seamen died in a collision with the coastal steamer Middlesex in fog off Cape Cod. Nine seamen were rescued.

New York reports ten drownings at beaches as a hot Sunday draws crowds. Shenandoah Iowa endures a tornado and damage after the hottest day in years. Kansas City notes cooling breezes but record heat. Berlin sees sunstroke among soldiers during maneuvers as Germany endures its hottest spell.
President Wilson has not begun serious consideration of a successor to the late Justice Lurton of the supreme court. Secretary Lane is regarded as most likely for the post, with Secretary Garrison and Attorney General McReynolds among other named candidates. The death of Associate Justice Horace Harmon Lurton occurred in Atlantic City from heart disease induced by cardiac asthma at age 70. He will be buried in Clarksville Tennessee, where he earlier practiced law and lived for twenty years. Funeral services are expected in Clarksville with Chief Justice White and others in attendance.
The Buffalo Voice lauds Hon. John B. Kendrick of Sheridan as a noble, untainted with royal blood, and the sole Democratic candidate for governor. It praises his integrity, independence, and long Wyoming service, arguing he seeks the general welfare, free of debt to corrupt interests.
Paris reports the senate passed a measure toappropriate $400000 for official French participation in the Panama Pacific Exposition after the chamber of deputies approved the bill last Wednesday.

Suarez of Chile seeks U S guidance while the United States contemplates informal dealings with Carbajal’s government until power is transferred to constitutionalists. Villa declares only armed entry by constitutionalists could end the revolution.
In Kansas leading politicians worry as women balk at registering to vote. Registration closes July 20 and party papers in 25 towns urge women to register. many refuse to reveal age, sparking concern over turnout in the August 4 primary.
Wyoming marks to honor pioneer routes with tablets and stones placed around the state. The markers list includes Bozeman, Havenian, Oregon and Overland trails, Fort Steele post, Cherokee and Rock Creek crossings, and Fort Halleck monuments.
