National Day Roundup Draws Thousands at Pine Bluffs

About 6000 people attended the final day of the Round-up in Pine Bluffs Wyoming with a Union Pacific train from Cheyenne bringing hundreds more. Speakers John Hey Rock Springs Judge Winter Casper and Judge Mentzer Cheyenne emphasized patriotism and the war aims. The program included wild west stunts, a three troop cavalry hurdle race, and an exhibition drill as Fort Russell troops prepared to depart for Fort Oglethorpe.

Murray Fails to Beat Year Old Round-up Record

In Laramie on July 4 a crowd of about 8000 watched the Denver Laramie road race. Bob Murray of Denver, piloting a Buick, won but did not surpass Harold Brinker of Cheyenne’s record time of 2:55:10 set last year. Brinker’s 1903 time was 3:08:30. Second place went to Cliff Sundin of Rawlins, third to George Edwards of Denver, and fourth to C. M. Duncan of Denver. four others finished after detours and rough roads. A Cheyenne to Laramie motorcycle race was won by Frank Kunce of Loveland on a Harley Davidson with 1:14 time.

Allies Join in Honoring Natal Day of America

Troops from Britain, France, Brazil, and the United States marched through Rio de Janeiro in a Natal Day parade. Admiral Caperton led American squadrons with Brazilian battalions and French and British detachments participating. Robert T. In Handelkade a mob of starving women stormed a cold storage warehouse and seized pig carcasses, distributing them as butcher shops were plundered. Soldiers and police moved in to quell the disturbance and clear the street.
