In Bachimba canyon near Chihuahua a six hour tug of war pitted about 5000 rebels against 5000 federals. Both sides gained little and nightfall suggested a decision would take days. Federal artillery, aided by heavy reinforcements, pounded the rebel lines as rail lines were repaired to bring in guns.
General Huerta reports a brilliant government victory after eight hours of fighting at Wachimba mountain pass. Federal forces occupy the entrance and surrounding positions with plans to resume battles at daybreak. Casualties and exact numbers remain unknown.

Washington July 3 A rift in the treasury between Secretary MacVeagh and Assistant Secretary A Platt Andrew ends with Andrew's resignation and a plan for congressional inquiry. Special to the Leader from Baltimore July 3 Hon John B Kendrick state senator from Sheridan county announced he would seek the Democratic nomination for United States Senator in Wyoming. Kendrick, a progressive cattleman long active in public welfare, has held no office since 1911 but was unanimously elected president of the Wyoming Stockgrowers Association this April.
Oliver H. Shoup announces Midwest Oil company of Casper Colo will pay a 2 percent dividend on 2 million dollars of preferred stock. Checks dated July 25 to holders of record July 16. Company operates four wells, forty downed, refinery capacity expanding beyond 8000 barrels daily. 200,000+ shares traded locally in last 30 days.
The House yesterday approved the army appropriation bill in its February form after Senate amendments. Provisions ousted include an amendment targeting the general staff under Major General Leonard Wood and a plan for a commission to decide army post numbers and locations.
A Bryan statement in Baltimore backs Governor Wilson for president with an expected popular win of at least 2,000,000 and a large electoral majority. Civil War veteran J C Elder petitions the state board of pardons for parole of his son Walter Elder from Rawlings penitentiary. Walter, convicted of second degree murder in a ranch dispute, received a 20 year sentence. his companion got 30 years. Elder Sr cites frailty and needs for care, backed by 100 signatures and editorials from Crook County chapters. The board hears the case and takes it under advisement.
Application by John D. Allen of Casper and associates seeks lease on section 16 township 32 range 70 for rich asbestos deposits. They plan to invest about 56000 in development and post a bond. Maps show an 8000 ton mill, mine to mill setup, and a five mile electric rail to Casper. Previous leases yield about 50 cents per ton. revenue could approach 3000 monthly in royalities. Also linked to Natrona county figures and the Salt Creek oil fields, with plans to manufacture roofing material blending asbestos with Casper oil products.
