Washington January 29 The Fordney emergency tariff bill was at a standstill as the Senate adjourned for the weekend. Republican leaders hoped for a vote next week or a cloture attempt, but insiders say both paths face likely defeat and lawmakers may shelve the measure for other business.
Authorities probing the disappearance of Mrs. Gladys Witherell, wife of O B Witherell, face a possible tie to a fatal auto crash that killed Charles Beverly and Mrs. Wilda Tenney. Private detectives shadowed the Beverly car, while questions remain about miss Tennys or others. Meanwhile GOP leaders plan a February 16 vote with a cloture petition in the senate.
416 gallons of wine including sherry and port poured into Cheyenne sewer from a basement manhole by Internal Revenue agents. The stock, seized after prohibition, was found in a storage warehouse with no admitted ownership.

A. W. McIvor formerly cashier of the Scandinavian American bank in Big Timber Montana is named assistant to the president of Stock Growers National Bank. Douglas Fuller is promoted to assistant cashier following the stockholders meeting that re elected the board for the coming year.
Fifty Colorado firms notified the state industrial commission of wage cuts ranging from 16 to 20 percent, effective March 1, in compliance with a 80 days notice law. The commission also published a decision allowing the state foundrymen's association to implement a 15 percent cut starting February 1, with several Denver trades seeking authority to reduce wages for workers.
Washington Jan 24 The Republican National Committee and party officials from Chairman Hays downward will stay in place after March 4 regardless of Cabinet changes. Hays likely to join the Cabinet but retain political position for a time. Committee aims to keep machinery intact and raise funds to cover a campaign deficit. The deficit has fallen from 1.6 million to about 1.0 million with 200 thousand floating debt paid and 400 thousand raised by solicitors.
The supreme council adjourned in Aris after agreeing on reparations, German disarmament, and other key issues. Germany must disarm by July 1 and pay 226 billion gold marks in annual installments. exports face a 12 percent tax, with an initial payment of about 3.25 billion gold marks. The council plans to reconvene in London on February 21.
New York January 29. Physical exams of over 400000 industrial workers in 42 plants have improved job adaptation and efficiency. The examining physicians report fewer accidents since the army style examinations were adopted, aiding industry and safety.

In Colorado a 15 year old girl Annie Mudri testified at a coroner inquiry that she killed her mother Mrs Frank Mudra at a Twenty Mile Park ranch. Her father Frank Mudra found the body buried behind the stable with two bullet wounds. The girl offered three conflicting accounts of the death including accident self defense and shooting at a coyote.
