Chairman Wadsworth of the Senate military committee rebutted Representative Mondell of Wyoming stating that the $1,000,000,000 figure to finance compulsory military training is incorrect. The committee had agreed to report favorably on the plan.
New York January 28 rates of exchange on London and major European centers fell to new lows due to abundant offerings from domestic and foreign sources. The decline extended to the Orient with rates moving against Japan for the first time in over a year as few Chinese bills traded amid uncertain quotations.
New York reports Arthur Williams federal food administrator says wool market nears pre war normal. Manufacturers will meet raw wool demands as mills operate at about 65 percent capacity. Wool experts predict price reductions if buyers choose standard styles and plain materials.
Governor Robertson said deputies will enforce the Tillman county court order in the Red River land dispute with Texas. A. P. Marsh and A. M. Stewart asked for 200 deputies to guard 400 acres and a 5,000-barrel oil well as 27 guards pledged hostility and threatened oil shipments into Oklahoma. Granfield leaders Fred Berner and W A Fuqua warned of blood if troops are not sent.
In Tiermopolis Wyoming on January 28 Marle Cannon a 46 year old Loveland Colorado youth who tried to cash a worthless check spent hours in the county jail only to be released after his father arrived and paid for a ticket home to restore his expense fund.
The five socialist members of the New York state Assembly face hearings with top legal talent. Seymour Sledman Morris Hillquit Gilbert Roe are seen in their defense. Former governor and justice Charles Evans Hughes helped form a five member committee offering services, plus Louis Marshall and Jos eph M Proskauer with others. The assembly judiciary chair refused to allow a brief, saying it would set a precedent for many groups to intervene.

Lt. E. F. Davis and Lt. G. E. Grimes were flying from Fort Brown to Nogales when fog forced a landing south of Zapata, Mexico. They are held by Mexican authorities as efforts to locate them continue. The trip from Fort Brown to Nogales involved a duplicate message and compass trouble as the two aviators disappeared near Guerra and Herrera near the border.
Amerongen telegraph office expanded to handle a flood of telegrams for former Emperor William on his birthday. Two large carts delivered flowers and gifts to Bentick castle where he resides. Queen’s consort arrived in Amerongen and visited the castle as festivities remained quiet.
Anette Adams United States attorney in San Francisco announced the office is investigating charges of irregularity in connection with the exemption from military service of Jack Dempsey.
Magnus W. Alexander of Boston told the national convention of merchant tailors in Atlantic City that Bernard Baruch wrecked the October conference by deferring labor arbitration on the steel issue. Alexander said Baruch controlled the public group and questioned motives.

Citizens State Bank of Gillette formed with articles of incorporation filed in Wyoming. The bank has capital of 35000 dollars divided into 350 shares of 100 dollars each. Principal stockholder is A. Belee of Gillette holding 95 shares. H. A. Cross of Luck holds 71 shares. remaining stock distributed among fielders with 1 to 10 shares. Directors include Albert Rochelle N B Tartwell O W Hale B D Rohan J W Agnew and Cross.
Chadron Nebraska January 28 Frank Place thirty employed by the C B Q railroad at Casper Wyoming was arrested today by a deputy United States marshal at Halsey on a charge of violating the Mann white slave ankle. He was on a train bound East with a woman named Frances Doty of Deadwood South Dakota. Place was taken to Alliance Nebraska where a United States commissioner remanded him to jail in default of bail. The woman was released. Prison id alleged 6 Reve aWise in Pennsylvania Place offered no statement.
