Elena Mont January 21 Miss Ruth Kane 25 former assistant postmaster at East Helena pleaded guilty to embezzling federal funds and was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison plus a 5909.85 fine by Judge Bourquin. Kane said she spent the money on furs diamonds and luxuries while the money taken was allegedly replaced. A stay of sentence was granted pending an appeal to the President.
Guy Kyle, former rector of the Free Methodist church in Mt. Vernon, was arrested in Vernon after authorities tied him to the theft of 31 packages of registered mail containing about $185,000. About $100,000 was found at his home, with additional sums at two garages linked to him.
