Ten British sailors including two officers are trapped aboard the submarine A-7 near Whitesand Bay five miles southwest of Plymouth. Rescue efforts failed as of nightfall with no word on survivors. A-8 and A-9 surfaced safely earlier. Grappling operations and lifting gear were dispatched for morning salvage.
Experiments at the Cornell College of Medicine show a serum from livestock pituitary glands doubling goat milk output and increasing cream content fivefold. Researchers led by R. P. Ni report injections yield rapid results but require frequent dosing. applicability to cows remains under study.
In Horgetown Cole Jan 16 Alva Johnson led a rescue party from the Capital mine shaft where John Trevellion and Arthur Hedberg died after a fall 600 feet underground. Johnson found the bodies and the cause remains uncertain gas exposure or a sudden collapse during the attempt to aid Trevellion.
Representative Stanley of Kentucky introduced an amendment to the Sherman act after a conference with the president. It would make illegal monopolization or restraint of trade in any degree and remove the rule of reason from the Standard Oil decision. The amendment would grant circuit courts jurisdiction to restrain violations irrespective of the attorney general and reflect the president’s aim to narrow the act’s debateable area.
Ef forts of border authorities to round up Mexican federal generals who fled Ojinaga during rebel occupation led to the arrest of General Inez Salazar at Sanderson Texas. He was taken from a train en route to join the garrison opposite Eagle Pass. He is the seventh general captured by U S authorities amid reports of hidden officers in Texas and more arrests expected.
Four men and a 7 year old boy survived a near drowning when an iceboat on Terry Lake broke through thin ice near Fort Collins Colorado. The rudder snagged on the ice and prevented the craft from submerging, allowing all to reach safety. The group includes H C Bradley R K Robinson and C C Patrick and Patrick’s son Keith.
The congressional committee of the National American Woman's Suffrage Association plans a Washington canvass to learn each member of Congress stance on the proposed federal amendment for women voters. Mrs Medill McCormick, chair, will travel to Washington to start the effort, supervised by Chicago’s Mrs Sherman M Booth. The full committee will meet in Washington early next week to map plans for the year.
The Young Men's Literary club held its annual banquet in the Plains hotel grill room with 26 of 30 members present. Toast master W. Be. Chaplin led the program including President Carlisle and Secretary Howell, with committee chairmen M. A. Kline Walton and Dr. George L. Strader. The group plans April this year for the twelfth anniversary celebration.
Hearings on regional bank locations for the federal reserve system concluded today in Washington. The organization committee Secretary McAdoo and Houston will travel west to conduct further hearings, joined later by John Skelton Williams whose comptroller nomination goes to the Senate with banking committee approval. About 2,200 banks have applied for membership, with over 3,000 expected.
Thieves ransacked the residence of Otis Richard son at 210 West Twentieth Street yesterday between 2 20 and 3 20 pm. A gold watch owned by a niece was the chief item taken. The home was entered without any witnesses and furnishings were overturned during the daylight burglary.
Frank L. Hawkins, manager of The Virginian troupe, toured Cheyenne yesterday en route to Laramie for an engagement. The company plans a return to Cheyenne early in March as enthusiasm for the play grows in Wyoming towns.
Butte miners union wired $10,000 to aid striking copper field workers in Michigan. The donation increases Butte union relief to Michigan to a total of $85,000.
The Wyoming farm board purchased ten Holstein heifers from the Ulolstelm herd near Denver for the state dairy demonstration at Archer farm. The cows will arrive in Cheyenne to join the state fair dairy program, with records kept on milk and butter production. The project, funded by railroads donations, aims to show mixed farming and dairying benefits to Wyoming farmers. The Holsteins, black and white and newly fresh this spring, are expected to attract interest at Archer and later at the state fair pastures.
Cumberland Maryland January 16 refugees who fled Dobbin dam flood began returning to their homes after the threat from the Stony Creek and upper Potomac valley broke. No lives were known lost though several reports described thrilling rescues and dangers faced during the evacuation.

Two youthful bandits held up a dance hall on North Fifteenth street late last night. They shot and killed Denry B. Nickoll a teller at Omaha National Bank and wounded a companion. The robbers escaped with about $300 in cash and $2,000 in diamonds from several women who had been forced to gather at the hall.
A bandit robbed a passenger near Atlanta Georgia tonight taking cash. After a brief confrontation with a deputy sheriff the bandit fled on foot from the scene near Dalton.
Washington reports the Kodak trust moves toward a out of court settlement to end the Sherman act suit begun against Eastman Kodak Co of New York at Buffalo last summer. Negotiations proceed rapidly and an agreement is expected soon, similar to the AT&T consent decree.
Tokyo dispatch through the Japanese embassy says Sakurajima island near Kagoshima was hit by a volcanic eruption. Half the houses on the island were destroyed and inhabitants fled to the opposite shore. Casualties are uncertain but not expected to be large, with a report suggesting around 200.

In North River valley near South Bend Washington on January 16 Mrs Margaret Ross and her seven sons say eleven wealthy farmers subjected them to intimidation by armed masked men who burned her house and left a death threat after failing to win a feud over land and claims.
In district court four young men were sentenced to the state penitentiary for robbery and larceny. Dick Evans George Williams Jack Maher and Erle Foster aged from 20 to 24 were found guilty of stealing from Hughes Dairy on the South Side and face prison terms ranging from about zero to three years. Maher is the ringleader with two to three years, Williams about one and a half to two years, and Evans around one year. Foster robbed a sheep herder of 30 pounds and receives a term up to 13 months.
Treasury officials begin selecting internal revenue agents and inspectors for income tax collection. More than 10 100 applications exist for 100 posts and appointments require approval by McAdoo and Congress members. Instructions stress vigilance and power to investigate returns and book records.
Aboard the New York bound ship Naw e American from Cleveland a cruise around the world carried thirteen bridal couples and 33 widows among 25 passengers who sailed yesterday. Last year the Cleveland carried 20 widows and ten were married on the voyage.
