Manigal Tells How He Used Clock In Bomb Plots

Ortie McManigal testified before a grand jury inquiry in Indianapolis detailing how an alarm clock attachment spurred bombings starting with Mount Vernon Illinois on April 18 1910 and later the Los Angeles Times and other targets. He said McNamara called the device a new invention and described alibi tactics and travel plans to evade detection. He mentioned $125 payment for the Mount Vernon job and his Chicago residence.

Reverend Richeson Sentenced to Death by Electric Chair

In Boston on January 9 1919 Reverend Clarence T Richeson pleaded guilty to the premeditated murder of his former sweetheart Avis Linnell and was sentenced to die in the electric chair during the week beginning May 19 1919. Judge Sanderson imposed the sentence and expressed hope for mercy from the governor and the Massachusetts pardon board.

Carnegie to Appear in Steel Trust Probe

Andrew Carnegie will testify before the House steel trust investigating committee next Wednesday morning after sending a telegram agreeing to appear. Chairman Stanley said Carnegie had been subpoenaed as a witness though he had earlier declined, citing counsel advice since being named a defendant in the government suit against the steel corporation.
