Washington notes the parcel post starts just after midnight with Postmaster General Hitchcock delivering the first mailed package. Regulations ban alcohol and many items while allowing foods, medicines, and general merchandise, provoking mixed reactions from industry and temperance advocates.
One thousand concrete paving blocks, each a stamped parcel, will be the first parcel post mail from Garby Indiana. Two drays backed up to the post office and deposited 6,600 pounds of concrete bricks being sent as samples by a manufacturer who found parcel post cheaper than express.

Pine Bluffs Wyoming expects to ship over one thousand carloads of wheat oats and flax by season end. Daily shipments from two elevators reach ten cars and local farmers receive about 1500 dollars daily from grain sales. Washington December 31 The expiration at midnight tonight of the treaty of commerce between America and Russia shifts the burden of maintaining friendly terms onto the administrations and judiciary of both nations. The treaty was denounced by the United States over Russia’s request to recognize passports issued to American Jews. No negotiations are now in progress for a new treaty.
New York on December 31 reports a brief strike by waiters and hotel workers that drew fewer than 500 protesters and disrupted no hotels or restaurants amid holiday crowds. Union leaders say wage demands found some purchase and many employers held talks. Workers largely chose whether to join, with few voting to strike.
The Washington department reports its new wireless tower near Arlington Virginia has successfully received the time signal from the Eiffel Tower in Paris, nearly 3000 miles away.
Indiana dispatch reports convict conspirators sent to Leavenworth as Judge Anderson will rule Monday on writs of supersedeas and error. Circuit Judge Beaman joins Thursday to consider writs to block incarceration. Wives and families depart, union officials McClorey of Cleveland and Lewis of San Francisco remain in custody.

Dr William B Craig and A M Ragsdale an undertaker were indicted by the Marion county grand jury in the 1911 death of Dr Helen Knabe. Craig a veterinary college president faced a principal charge while Ragsdale, Knabe's administrator, was named as an accessory after the fact. Police had said the case involved a deadly confrontation at night and a kimono stained with human blood.

Multiple railroad leaders face manslaughter indictments in two fatal wrecks. In Bridgeport Connecticut Vice President Henry J. Horn General Manager Benjamin BR Pollock and Division Superintendent Charles N Woodward charged after the Westport wreck that killed several. In Indianapolis Indiana seventeen officers and directors of the Cincinnati Hamilton & Layton railroad charged for the Irvington wreck deaths of sixteen.

Chicago Dec 31. The Frisco system will appoint 1,400 presidents at stations nationwide to handle all developments and dealings with the public. Station agents will have full authority, directing operations on the ground to cut red tape before questions reach the general company from St Louis and Chicago.
Albany Dec. 41 The suffrage delegation that marched from New York to Albany handed its message to Governor elect Sulzer. The note sends greetings and hopes his administration will press for ratification of the amendment. Sulzer replied he has urged passage in his message.
