London Feb 26 The Verdun battle continues with intense fighting across miles of front. Casualties soar as both sides suffer heavy losses, Germans reportedly suffering higher per capita. Paris denies Verdun fallen and Berlin reports severe Allied pressure while German press warns against optimistic hopes.
Berlin announces Fort Douaumont, a key Verdun fortress, was stormed yesterday afternoon by the Twenty fourth Brandenburg Infantry and is now firmly in German hands. Further reports cite advances east of the Meuse and captured positions near Louvemont and Verdun front sectors.
Boston February 26 The present congress shows no chance of national women suffrage action this session. Carrie Chapman Catt president of the association said continuing the campaign will still aim to convince congress.
