Poison plot against Sundance man shocks Deadwood

In Deadwood South Dakota on February 26 Rudolph Frederik, a Mowes take time plait employee, confessed to Postoffice Inspectors Flem and Laforge that he tried to poison Henry Clark of Sundance Wyoming. Frederik, once courting Mabel Deyo, sent jewelry and sweets laced with strychnine through the mail after being spurned. Clark survived after investigators traced the poison to Frederik, who admitted intent to kill Clark to gain the woman’s favor.

Palmer of New London Reported Lost at Sea

Dispatch from Copenhagen cites a consul general report indicating the American ship Theoanre Palmer of New London with all hands is lost after contact in mid ocean. An iron lifeboat bearing the Palmer name was found February 22 by the Swedish steamship Ala.

Burlington to Spend Half Million on Casper Rail Line

Casper, Wyoming February 26 Five hundred thousand dollars will be spent on construction in the Casper vicinity by the Burlington railroad this summer. Workers may add spur tracks to serve untapped tonnage to boost freight and passenger traffic.
