Alexander Howat, president of the Kansas miners union, was found guilty of contempt of court and sentenced to one year in jail plus costs by Judge A. J. Curran. Five co defendants, all union officers, also received one year terms. others were acquitted. The case stemmed from a strike at two Croweburg mines linked to a pay dispute over a young miner. The defense promised appeal.

Pilot Harry G. Smith of the air mail service shattered records by flying 458 miles from Cheyenne to Omaha in 3 hours 5 minutes. The non stop flight averaged 214 miles per hour as he battled strong winds and landed safely at Omaha field after leaving Cheyenne at 6.50 AM Mountain time and arriving at 10.55 AM Central time.

Air Derby winner returns after desert ordeal

Lieutenant Alexander Pearson, missing since February 10, rode to Sanderson Texas after a forced descent in the Big Bend area. He survived six days of desert treks, sand storms, and hunger, reaching safety with help from ranchers and two men who ferried him across the Rio Grande. He sent word to Fort Bliss and his fiancée Margaret Shanno of Douglas Arizona.
