Senate Restores 158000 To War Funds In Wyoming Budget

The Wyoming Senate on Tuesday afternoon restored 158000 of 550000 cut by the House from the state budget bill. Total appropriations reach 2811000, slightly above the two-year-ago amount, with several university and state department items restored. Remaining gaps from the original 3203000 are nearly 400000.

Senate declines to attach rider to judges bill

The finance committee's effort to add salary boosts for state officers to House 384 was rejected by the senate in a committee of the whole vote. The bill originally raised supreme court justices to 8000 and district judges to 7500, but was trimmed to 7000 and 6500 respectively, with other officer increases defeated amid a heated debate.

Governor approves county bills and tax exemptions

Governor Carey signed House Bill 17 creating Sublette County from Fremont and Lincoln and House Bill 84 creating Teton County from Lincoln. He also approved laws exempting veterans and widows from taxes on $2,000 of property and exempting World War nurses, plus distributing revenue from federal land leasing. Senate File 51 changes University of Wyoming trustee residency to allow not more than one trustee per county.

State approves oil royalties for school funding

The House approved Senate amendments to H. R. 45 by 39 to 6, directing 33 1 3 percent of state and school land royalties to public schools. With expected $600k-$700k for about 50,000 pupils, per-child totals rise toward $40 including surface rentals and interest. Federal royalties could add about $15 more per pupil.

Chicago February 15 directors of the Quaker Oats company today declared a dividend of 112 percent payable April 15 to stock of record April 1. Dividends at the rate of 12 percent per annum have been paid for the last three years. Directors announced that the reduction was to conserve resources.

Giant Caproni Plane Scours Desert for Missing Aviator

The Caproni airplane at Kelley Field will depart for west Texas to aid cowboys and 50 government planes in the search for Lieut. Alexander Pearson Jr. The craft can stay aloft nine hours and carries an all seeing camera to photograph hundreds of square miles daily. It will fly at 10 000 feet and film will be examined at Kelley Field for traces of the missing ship.

Surgeon Operates on Himself for Chronic Appendicitis

Dr E O Kane chief surgeon at the hospital operated on himself for chronic appendicitis with local anesthetic while a nurse held his head forward. He sat propped on pillows and performed the dissection and removal of the appendix. Kane is 60 years old and has 37 years of surgical experience, having previously amputated one of his own fingers.

Boxing Bill Falls Short In Senate With Two Absent

A state boxing bill failed by a two vote margin in the senate on third reading, 11 for and 12 against, with two absentees. The session also killed S. F. 32 to regulate chiroptic practice after a heated fight, while the house earlier trimmed the measure then let it die in committee.

O Callaghan seeks change to stay in United States

Cork's lord mayor Donal G. O Callaghan petitioned the state department to change his status from seaman to political refugee and remain in the United States.
