Paris reports say Georges Carpentier European heavyweight champion will sail March 13 to the United States. He expects to fight Jack Dempsey for the world title in September with manager Descamps and two lighter class French boxers, Ledoux and Papin, aboard.

In Grand Rapids, Feb 11, testimony in the Newberry election conspiracy case challenged the signatures on Helme's 1918 Democratic senatorial nomination petition. A Grand Rapids printer testified that signatures were forged as part of alleged maneuvers by the Newberry Senatorial Campaign Committee.
The senate adopted the conference report on the leasing bill and it will go to the president. The measure opens government oil coal gas phosphate sodium and oil shale lands to private development on about 75 million acres, with royalties split among the government states and the reclamation fund.
Five candidates were presented by the joint nominating committee to replace August Hermann as chair of the National Baseball Commission. Landis Edwards Walker Woodruff Toole were named. Democrats and league presidents will decide.
In Wieringen Holland February 41 villagers say former Crown Prince Frederick William has received no replies to telegrams urging surrender for trial. Frederick William told the Associated Press he could not answer questions about his offer.

Washington reports that Director General Hines failed to secure a wage agreement with over 2,000,000 railroad workers and submitted the issue to President Wilson. Union leaders cited eight days of talks with Mr Sines and no prospects for an accord under present conditions. The president’s ruling may determine whether war- era wage rises are granted or left to railroad owners.
Idaho's legislature in a special session today ratified the woman suffrage amendment to the national constitution. The senate approved 29 to 6 while the lower house vote was unanimous. Idaho becomes the thirtieth state to ratify and six more states are needed.
Senate testimony from Captain Frederick Herman recounts at Nogales on August 27 1918 at least two Germans fought with Mexican troops. He notes many Mexicans were soldiers in civilian dress and that the clash was planned by the Mexican commander. U S casualties were five killed and 84 wounded. Mexican losses unknown but at least 145 buried.
