Two Negroes Hanged Simultaneously in Missouri
Kansas City February 8: George Reynolds and John Williams, both negroes, were hanged simultaneously at 6 30 this morning in the county jail for the December 22 1909 assault and rape of Mrs. Jackson, a violinist. Reynolds died in seven minutes, Williams in nine. Marshal Joel B. Mayes oversaw the trap. Williams showed defiant bravado, Reynolds collapsed earlier and was carried to the trap. The case sparked threats of lynching but resulted in a formal conviction after a two day trial. Mrs. Jackson identified the attackers and both men confessed.
