Tangled Evidence in Gibson Case Hears Testimony

A preliminary hearing for William Gibson, a colored soldier, on an assault charge against Mrs. A. Y. Jones occurred yesterday. Judge Holwards presided. County Attorney Rigdon prosecuted. Gen. J. C. Thompson and Sam Thompson defended Gibson. State witnesses included A. Y. Jones, Carl Christenson, a policeman, Private A. Wilson, James F. Phagan, and Mrs. McGuire. Defense witnesses included Sergeants Glenn, Hall, and Carey, plus Miss Howard and G. W. Frellon. The hearing moved from Justice Edwards office to City Hall due to crowd size, four hours of testimony and argument concluded with a decision pending at 9 o'clock this morning.
