Denver December 24 Mayor Henry J. Arnold acquitted of contempt of court avoiding jail for Christmas dinner clash with civil service commission over payroll signing. Kansas City scene reports 56 000 people to receive food clothing and toys from business donations as a Christmas tree distribution continues at Convention Hall.
Benjamin Lucky was set for a manslaughter sentence in Boston on December 24 but a last minute confession by another man led to his release. The case stemmed from a summer Boston circus incident in which a boy was killed during a crowd fight with circus workers.
A Buffalo girl Margaret Cummer age 10 writes to Uncle Sam asking for a map of the United States and North America. The Senate secretary cannot issue such licenses but forwarded the letter to Secretary Root, hoping the girl will be rewarded with the maps.
Wall Street plans a Christmas payout of about 1 000 000 in gifts to salaried workers in the financial district. The year has been fair for bankers but lean for stock brokers due to dull news and weak speculation.

An early morning assassination attempt on Prince Yamagata Aritomo, Japan's chief of the privy council and military adviser, was foiled by attendants. The would be killer injured himself and was arrested. investigation into the motive continues. Prince Yamagata, famed for orchestrating the Sino Japanese War, is well known abroad.
The Leader reports a $200 fund met its goal and 800 baskets were prepared and distributed to Cheyenne's needy. Each 18 pound basket included turkey or large roast, canned goods, bread, fruit preserves, butter, sugar, coffee and more. Seventy five baskets went to those with tickets and five to shut ins, with Salvation Army cooperation.
In Indianapolis on December 24 United States District Attorney Miller challenged the 12 defense lawyers to speak for J E Munsey of Salt Lake and Herbert Hockin former Iron Workers secretary. Miller accused Munsey of harboring McNamara and Hockin of starting the dynamiting scheme. Senator John W Kern argued for the defendants urging jurors to consider the distance from home and the burden of testimony. Kern attacked investigations in Los Angeles and denounced the so called third degree as abusive and improper.
Denver residents report that C. F. Parker, defeated by one vote in Sengwick county for representative, challenged the certification. The state canvassing board ruled the tally had a miscount of one vote in Parker’s favor, allowing him to proceed.
