Christmas Eve Day of Doom for 8 People in Hillsville

In Newcastle Pennsylvania on December 24 a Christmas tree fire killed eight people in the De Gerbo home at Hillsville village. Guitano De Gerbo his wife and three children died along with three boarders who were burned to death as flames destroyed the front room where decorations and candles fueled the fire.

Mark Twain’s Daughter Jean Clemens Dies in Bath

Jean Clemens, Samuel L. Clemens’s invalid daughter, died this morning in Redding Connecticut. Initial claims of drowning arose, but epilepsy and heart failure likely caused strangulation. a servant found her body in the tub with water.
