Turkish warships returned to anchorage after a morning naval battle with the Greek cruiser Georgio Averoff taking most of the damage. In London Balkan and Turkish plenipotentiaries adjourned without a decision on the procordi armistice terms as Greece refused to sign, citing that allied decisions bind all members.
Dr Daneff of the Bulgarian Chamber of Deputies told the peace conference that intervention by the United States would be welcome to end the stalemate among Balkan powers. The Turkish delegates said they could confer with Bulgaria Greece and Serbia and have time to get instructions.
Washington officials say the State Department does not anticipate U S mediation in the Balkan trouble and believes complex issues between warring states should be resolved by neutral European states using their good offices.

J P Morgan arrived in Washington to testify before the House Money Trust Committee about contracting money and credits. The testimony may not occur until Thursday as the panel examined New York funding, call money rates, and bank lending on stock exchange securities. Frederick Lewisohn, who had refused earlier to answer questions about profits from the California Vetrellum company stock, agreed to testify today.

In New York on December 17 the House Wives League of America launched a national effort to cut egg prices to 26 cents and urged state and local leaders to spread the campaign. The group, representing over 60,000 in New York and many more nationwide, also pushed for bakery sanitation by inspecting shops and urging compliance with sanitary codes and factory laws.

Dec. 17 Nogales Ariz An inmate identified as Yeosbit jailed for murder of a Mexican woman and four accomplices escaped with a boy during a prison break. Three other men remained missing, believed to have fled to Mexico. one youth was captured by Mexican police.
