Washington December 7 congress adjourned until Friday after receiving the president's annual message. Republicans found little fault while Democrats approved autonomy but rejected the Monroe doctrine as obsolete. Senators and representatives gathered in expectation as Latia delivered the document.

The cold spell across the nation eased in this area as temperatures climbed during the afternoon and reached 18 above before dropping to 6 above zero by one o clock this morning. The morning reading was 18 degrees warmer than yesterday's.

Artillery Officer Blunt Retired After Thirty-Two Years Service

Lieut.-Colonel Alvert Blunt of the coast artillery is placed on the retired list after a 32 year career. He has served at Key West and his retirement elevates several officers in rank as Col. Harris also left the army last week. Lieutenant-Colonel Blunt, famed in Obeyenne, won notable postings including Ft Russell.

Cody Druggist Diabolically Assassinated in Sleeping Room

A. Aal, manager of Western Drug Company, was murdered in Cody last night by a trap gun hidden in his sleeping room. The weapon fired when he opened the door, wounding him fatally. he died two hours later. He was a popular Knights of Pythias member with no known enemies. He has a brother in the Panavia canal dispensary and a Boston-based sister who teaches music.

Switchmen Strike Not Causing Serious Delay

Fifteen jobbers and manufacturers visited the Twin Cities terminals and transfer station to assess traffic during the switchmen strike. They reported freight moving satisfactorily overall, with some points above normal, and warned customers in the Northwest not to fear serious delays.

London reports the Birmingham Post will publish a Unionist proposed tariff reform plan. It calls for a general tariff on most goods except raw materials to raise revenue aid home producers against foreign competition favor colonies and improve terms with foreign nations while reducing unemployment.

Explosion at Hamburg Gas Plant Kills and Maims

A blast at a Hamburg gas plant on the Elbe front tears through two tanks causing a large fire. Twenty five workers were missing in flames, with seventeen dead and forty injured reported as nightfall closed in. The leak ignited gas entering the retort house and triggered a massive explosion.

Doxey and wife held on murder charge

Dr Loren B H Doxey of Columbus Nebraska and his wife Dora Doxey held on murder charge as a grand jury prepared to act. Doxey waited at the jail door seeking admission to his wife. Fourteen witnesses identified Dora as the real wife of Willfen Brder.
