The Women’s Club hosted a picnic at Lake Minnehaha with members, children, and spouses enjoying a meal and sewing in a secluded spot while supervising the youngsters. A separate Carnegie Library event by Civic League features art displays, musical tea, and a reading-room fundraiser.
The Mount Mellick club will meet in the afternoon with Mrs. Howard to discuss upcoming events and plan social activities for the month. Members are invited to bring ideas and notes for the agenda.
In church circles Mrs Rh L Young hosts an ice cream social Thursday evening at 814 West Nineteenth Street for the Baptist church. Young people and children are selling tickets and hope for favorable reception to make the event a financial success. Music will be a feature of the evening.
Mrs Fe J Niawander and Mrs William Daley will host the St Mark's Guild meeting Friday afternoon at the Parish House.
The Presbyterian Ladies Missionary Society met with Mrs. L Harold Forde and enjoyed an engaging afternoon. Mrs Colin Hunter reviewed recent mission books, followed by Mr Harry Henderson Jr on Young People's Place in Mission Work and retirement work among foreigners in New York City. Refreshments were served to twenty attendees.
Rossman and Mr. R Kinport with families and classes from the Methodist Sunday School enjoyed a pleasant afternoon at Lake Minnehaha. Thirty people joined a cheerful picnic supper under perfect weather with games and socializing.
Mrs. W. J. Jones ages after a second operation at the Private hospital shows steady improvement and is expected to fully recover after about two weeks. Mr. J. Stimson, with a fractured right leg from a Bordeaux area auto crash, remains gainfully resting and faces weeks of limited activity. Mrs. George Hager remains ill at West Twenty Fourth street home. Miss Mabel Branson, long afflicted, slowly recovers from catarrh of the stomach and can walk a little as friends celebrate progress.
New York Aug 27 Blanche Stuart Scott, survivor of Harriet Quimby’s death, plans to not only duplicate but double Quimby’s cross Channel flight. Within a month Scott will depart Dover in a hydroplane to fly to Calais and back.
Chicago directors of the YWCA declare a deadline divide between sprightly youth and sober maturity. The board sealed the choice with 21 pink cups given to as many voters who wore the local YWCA badges. The slips urged the girls to leave.
Percy Hoyt plans a Calgary outing for a party from Cheyenne to assist Canadians in their first venture. Hoyt has booked a room at the King George Hotel in Calgary for the group, with about 80 000 residents in Keyes city to entertain.
