Frazee approves world series plan after Johnson explanation

Boston club president Harry H. Frazee said he is satisfied with President Ban Johnsons explanation of the world series arrangement and will proceed as planned. He had previously protested Chicago games as unfair to Boston. John H. Grant, son of General U S Grant, obtained a marriage license in New York to wed widow William Burns Wilkins, aged 41, after a Tonopah divorce.

Pearl faking case in Paris ends with fines and jail

In Paris Aug 44 a American white pearl worth 14400 was chemically treated to look like an oriental pearl and sold for 52000. Pearl broker and Varma a Hindu were fined and jailed for six months and three months respectively for using amyl acetate and collodion to increase value. The court ruled the treatment added no real value and faded in alcohol.

Canadian Steamer Lake Manitoba Catches Fire at Wharf

Montreal August 26. While loading off at her wharf the Canadian Pacific liner Lake Manitoba caught fire. Fire fighters fought flames threatening oil tanks as all city apparatus were summoned. The Lake Manitoba, a steel steamer of 9,474 tons, had long served Liverpool to Montreal routes and carried thousands of passengers before the war.

Three Die and Four Hurt in Denver Rocky Ford Auto Crash

The Associated Press reports a deadly auto accident on a bridge near Littleton two miles south of Denver. Gilbert L Miller of Rocky Ford lost his wife and two children with several other relatives hurt.

Tax bill differences loom in 3 percent Earned Income plan

Washington reports a conference between House Chairman Kitchin and Secretary McAdoo over the 3 percent differential on earned incomes as the sole hurdle to a revenue bill agreement. Gov and Father L. enx and Adjutant General Weaver returned Monday from Camp Funston after an invitation from Maj. Gen. Wood to inspect the camp. The Wyoming men were pleased with the soldiers under Gen. Wood and found Veal army camp at Funston satisfactory.

American Raiders Hit German Lines In France

American raiders again attacked in France dropping forty tons on the railway station despite heavy enemy guns and aircraft fire. German airmen trailed the Americans to their lines but did not press engagement. Austrian troops were identified opposite American positions in reserve.

Two meetings were held Monday night the Building and Loan Association to discuss loans and homes and the Carpenters Union with important business. The Carpenter meeting drew a near full attendance but details were not released. The Labor Day committee also met to plan the Sept 2 celebration.

At Camp Kearny San Diego California on August 26 the segregated cavalry from Camp Fremont is reorganized into the 40th and 470th field artillery units. Both units will be armed with 105 mm field pieces and trench mortar batteries. Many officers came from the First Colorado Cavalry, absorbed into other units when the national guard was federalized.
