Aug 26 report says French aviator Latham crossed the English Channel distance in two hours eighteen minutes and three fifths, a world record of 6 miles at 61.5 km/h using a monoplane. He battled wind and rain, climbing to 300 feet during a storm.
An apparent deranged man, claiming to be a Deyo of 245 Wabash Avenue, was taken into custody at Arden today. He said he wanted to reach E. H. Harriman and claimed to hold back interest on railroad stock. The incident centers on Harriman’s estate in New York.
Mount Vernon reports George Rutledge found a forty six grain pearl in the Wabash River weighing about nine and a half dollars for each grain. The gem is described as the largest ever taken from the stream and Rutledge is said to pursue pearl mining for years with plans to buy a mine boat to harvest more pearls.

Greeley Colorado August 25 Northern Colorado will produce about four million dollars in Irish potatoes this year. Railroads estimate roughly 12 000 cars or about 180 000 tons up from 10 000 cars or 150 000 tons last year. Early figures are cautious and conservative.
The Capital Garage at 110-112 West Seventeenth Street changes hands as W B Barnett and Fred Horn buy out F W Wright. Barnett, head of Barnett Mercantile and president of the Avenue Motor Club, and Horn, long employed by Max Meyers, are slated to take over the agency and may add Mr Wright’s remaining interests. Wright heads to Salt Lake City to start a similar venture.
New York police investigate a fatal accident on the archway at One Hundred and Sixty Eighth Street station. Mrs Abigail Shanley sixty, widow of Bernard Shanley, was killed after a guard signaled movement and she was caught between a platform and a dying guard.
E H Harriman aims to spend about 200 million dollars over five years to enhance main lines of the Union and Southern Pacific networks, add many branch lines, and boost local traffic as part of a long standing reconstruction plan. The plan includes double tracking from Omaha to Ogden, a Sierra Nevada tunnel project costing around 25 million, and new lines across Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, and Nevada, with work under way and more to come.

Union Pacific fell seven and a half points with other Harriman stocks dropping, market recovering briefly then resuming a downward trend. Union Pacific hit 200% a low not seen since July 20. In Guttenburg New Jersey police arrest Mrs Anna Lillienkamp and Mrs Dorothy Koch after a fight in a saloon kitchen where Carl Miller was stabbed to death. Officials say Miller died from a heart wound caused by a knife, though suspects claim he fell and the weapon was dislodged by accident during their bid to eject him.
A 27 year old woman: Mrs. J. R. Carson formerly Ida Miller, says she is Orville Wrights wife and has lived in Portland with their year old son. She claims she married Wright in Central City Nebraska years ago, was left in the dark about his death, and later married J. R. Carson near Vancouver, Washington. Carson and the child are now in Wyoming while she works in San Diego planning to move next Saturday.
