Royal Edward Sunk in Aegean with Heavy Losses

About 1,000 men are believed lost when the British transport Royal Edward was sunk by a German submarine in the Aegean on Saturday en route to the Dardanelles. The ship carried 1,050 soldiers, 32 officers, and a crew of about 240. officials report 100 saved. The vessel, built in 1908 in Glasgow, was a 11,117 ton triple screw steamer commanded by the Canadian Northern Steamship Company and pressed into service at the war's start.
