State to Erect Two Long Bridges in Two Counties
The state highway commission seeks bids by August 31 for a 272 foot reinforced concrete bridge over the Big Horn river at Thermopolis linking the town with Big Horn Hot Springs and a 650 foot steel bridge over the Snake river near Wilson in Lincoln county to connect with Jackson Hole. The Thermopolis bridge, funded partly by a state levy and half financed by federal aid, aims to become a premier concrete structure. The Snake river bridge will be the longest in the state, rising from five 130 foot spans, replacing older failed approaches from 1917 and easing crossing for Jackson Hole residents who have endured a vulnerable ferry system.
