Russell and Russell Silent on Hampton Shooting at Sundance

The funeral for L. H. Hampton, shot at a Chalmers ranch dance, was held in Sundance Wyoming as George C. Russell and his father John D. Russell remained silent. Witnesses say Hampton made no threat and the shooters claimed self defense as authorities note no weapon was found on the victim. The widow, four children, and townsfolk gathered in mourning while the two defendants refused to explain their actions.

Lost Colorado girl seeks relatives in Cheyenne

A 15 year old girl Kitty Ellis arrived in Cheyenne from Brush Colorado hoping to meet her brother in law Carl Christman. He was not found and no one in Cheyenne knows him. Mrs Mary Cahill alerted sheriff offices and sent telegrams to Brush and Sheridan for clues. Any information contact Mrs Cahill at 114J.

Great Prosperity in Wyoming Bank Report Highlights Record State Bank Health

State Bank Examiner Newland reports Wyoming banks ended the year with record resources exceeding 14 million dollars and deposits above 9 million. The June 30 1916 statement shows loans and discounts over 10 million, total liabilities around 14.09 million, and capital stock of about 31.92 thousand. The national and private banks are implied to have had a similarly strong year.

Plan to counterfeit one million dollars foiled in New York

William J. Fiyne, chief of the government secret service, broke a plot to print and circulate one million dollars in counterfeit silver currency. Eight suspects were arrested and a full counterfeiting outfit recovered. The group was equipped to produce large sums before destroying the plant.

Corporal James Clement of the Virginia National Guard was slain while trying to shield a Mexican girl identified as Sofia Valdes. Regular Army Corporal Dunches shot Clement and likely fatally wounded the girl after she repulsed his advances and cried for help. Homeat, who came to aid, was killed on arrival.
