Democrats Ready for Reservations in Peace Treaty

Washington aug. 13 the trend toward agreement on reservations in the peace treaty reached the stage today where Republican senators pushing reservations received assurances they could accept as Democratic assent to their program. Word said to members of the group indicated as soon as they pledged about twenty Republican votes for reservations to the league covenant ratified by seven Republican senators the administration could line up for ratification. There was an intimation that Lodge might join the reservationists bringing the total to over two thirds.

Illinois Guard Ends Bartonville Strike Riot

Illinois guards dispersed a Bartonville plant riot as 800 workers had faced a weeks long strike. Shouting and firing left two sons of the firm wounded and a night watchman shot in the back while a woman was briefly struck by a sniper. Earlier, deputies and strikers exchanged shots and two wounded strikers were reported.
