Allied forces drive through a wide front near Amiens and Montreuil, with British and French troops pressing deep into German positions in the opening day of a major battle. The line extends over 25 miles from Morlancourt to far trenches as Haig pushes forward.
Allied tanks and mounted batteries unleash a swift surprise drive across German positions aided by misty conditions. Thousands of German troops are taken prisoner as villages fall and the trunk railway near Framerville is seized. British and French forces press forward toward Peronne and Roye, threatening the German front from Rheims to the sea.
