Charleston West Virginia Aug shows miners at Cabin Creek likely to return within days as Ohley locals ratify a new labor pact extending to April 1 1915 with wage increases of 12 to 15 percent, a hour day and arbitration for grievances. If no wage increase occurs in Kanawha field, the agreement may run to April 1 1916. The pact includes non union discrimination safeguards and union rights while granting orderly working rules and dispute resolution.
Aug 1 The Public Service Commission approves Iron Mountain railroad tax refunding bonds totaling 24,584,500 dollars at 0 percent.
The House lobby committee completes Mulhall's removal from the National Association of Manufacturers case and plans a direct examination next week. Chairman Garrett says the inquiry will start with charges involving current House members, then former congressmen, and finally Mulhall’s alleged legislative ties. Former Rep. James E. Watson of Indiana is set to testify Monday.
Dr Sun Yat Sen, a southern rebel leader, says re occupation of Nanking by government forces is temporary and vows to resume the struggle after securing aid from Nwang Tung and other southern provinces. He will seek support in Hong Kong to topple Yuan Shi Kai for alleged crimes.
Governor Major of Missouri announced at a banquet that Missouri’s Good Roads Days on August 20 and 21 would be the biggest two working days the country has seen. He projected an army of 250 000 to 300 000 workers in the field as nationwide interest concentrates on the effort. The note mentions Minnesota passing workmen’s compensation and initiative related laws.
Stroudsburg and the Delaware Gap faced an unprecedented storm as 7.5 inches of rain fell in under three hours. Damage exceeded $100,000 with miles of railroad tracks washed out on the Delaware Lackawanna and Western and Susquehanna and Western lines. Manunka Chunk and nearby towns suffered extensive destruction including washed away tracks and bridges, and service on the Pennsylvania Railroad was halted north of Belvidere with uncertain resumption. The storm also paralyzed wire communications and buried railroad embankments under earth and debris.
The state bee inspector reports long dry weather has left northern Kansas bees with insufficient honey for winter. He urges beekeepers to feed their hives late this fall to ensure bees survive until spring.
In Chicago on August first a monoplane piloted by W C Robinson of Chili cago caught fire at about 4000 feet after a engine fuse blew. Robinson used a hand extinguisher and landed safely while attempting to break the new American altitude record. James Irving of San Jose California parachuted safely from 4000 feet attached to Roy Francis of San Francisco.
Senate records show only 66 of 2500 questions sent to U S manufacturers drew replies as the finance committee probes the Democratic tariff plan. Senators Gronna and Catron criticized the bill as dangerous while La Follette urged frankness from industry.
Archibald Hart is elected representative for New Jersey's sixth district crediting Colonel M M Mulhall's senate testimony. Mulhall alleged McClave financed McGlavoe's 1810 campaign, while Wilson and Progressive endorsements split the Republican vote aiding Hart's victory.
The California state railroad commission ordered Wells Fargo to reduce express rates by about 15 percent statewide, effective October 1, abolishing existing rates and creating over 3,000 new ones on a ten mile basis. The ruling estimates a $750,000 annual revenue cut and labels Wells Fargo a parasite on the railroads, noting the commission will review earnings after six months.

The regiment threatened to resign if the dismissal stood as a comrade was cleared. A girl in a winged car waved a flag during the march as a soldier dropped and trampled the flag.
In Calumet Michigan armed guards blocked passage on Portage Lake bridge linking Houghton and Hancock amid dynamite plot rumors tied to copper miners strike. Eight Red Jacket arrestees faced Houghton court with bonds set, while commercial life in the strike zone grows tense with talks of noon closures and cut deliveries.
Washington August 1 Democrats on the House Banking and Currency Committee neared final action on the administration currency bill after five weeks of meetings. A compromise advisory bankers board was added to advise the Federal Reserve Board, while reserve requirements and rediscount provisions were adjusted. A late vote eliminated interlinked director bids between banks. Lucercent amendments for warehouse mobilization were approved with little discussion.

Buffalo Aug 1 The arbitration board appointed to settle differences causing a strike by International Street Railway workers issued a split report. The majority grants employees a one cent an hour raise but keeps the siding scale objected to. The dissent says the award is inadequate.
Washington August 1 Assistant Attorney General Ernest Knaebel warned the public of wholesale land frauds aimed at Oregon California railroad lands. He said unscrupulous persons seek location fees and urge purchases of lands forfeited by the United States district court for violation of grant conditions. The government will pursue offenders and seek remedy via Congress or Supreme Court litigation.
