In Haten Georgia a mob of more than a hundred sought to lynch Ingram a Black suspect accused of burglary. Mrs Susie Hillhouse a respected local woman blocked the mob with a pistol facing the crowd and escorted the man to safety ensuring he was not harmed despite the tense confrontation.
In Cairo Illinois on August 1 a mob captured a black man who had entered a young girl’s room ten miles northeast of town. He hid under a bed but was dragged out and tied to a tree by one end of a rope. The wagon pulled away, the body was left to be shot by bullets, and the brutal act sparked local outrage.
A Colorado and Southern ore train bound from Sunrise to Pueblo plunged through a Pole Creek bridge near Islay twenty miles north of Cheyenne. The 37 loaded cars and two engines left the track but the enginemen and crew escaped injury. The bridge failed after a weekend cloudburst weakening the structure. northward passenger and freight service resumed after repairs.
In San Diego California Bert Durham killed his wife and child with a steel bar then sparked citywide panic by firing on fellow firefighters after a false alarm. He later shot himself in a central city street and died.
Five Denver witnesses arrived to testify before the grand jury as the federal probe into Chicago meat packers expands to Denver. The inquiry focuses on alleged acquisition of three independent Denver concerns by the National Packing Company.

In Quebec August 1 Crippen and Ethel Leneve were taken aboard the Montrose for trial on murder charges. Crippen seized by authorities after a dramatic boarding. Leneve detained as a suspected accomplice as her condition and testimony unfold amid extradition questions and family appeals.
New York reports a desperate plea by Dr Mariano Schlineca to raise 4000 for the ransom of his 2 year old son Michael and to save his own life and that of his wife. The Black Hand demanded at least 5000 and warned of death if not met. Schlineca has pawned jewels and spent all he has in vain searches. A bomb was found near the Selmuca apartments as police track the case.
