Paris reports from Rome indicate Italy may deliver an ultimatum to Austria soon and prepare for war. The Austrians reportedly pay embassy staff daily and organize new aeroplane hangars in the Ronchi valley. Russia notes German attacks repulsed at Telepotch and Polen with counter moves near Oraver's height.
In Syracuse on April 20 the Barnes libel suit against Theodore Roosevelt opens with both sides vowing to press the war to a bitter end. Prominent Republicans urge compromise for party unity, but both Barnes and Roosevelt reject such overtures as court testimony unfolds.

Villa cites losses of over 2,500 after Celaya clashes amid ongoing fighting and railway destruction.
Morgan Colorado April 20 A farmer named Barnes jumped in front of a westbound passenger train at the depot platform, his head severed by the car and engine. The man lived on Walnut Street and had moved to town for winter schooling for his children. The motive remains unknown.
General von Strantz takes command of the Third Bavarian corps defending the St Mihiel wedge in France. Formerly commander of the Fifth Army corps at Posen, he has been reassigned to this new field as Western Front fighting continues.
F H Badger 60 a prominent Greeley businessman was killed when his southbound Union Pacific train struck his automobile between Greeley and Lucerne. The car was demolished and witnesses reported no bystanders. Badger president of two large enterprises, survived by widow and son. He had life long ties to the city and was a former council candidate and Odd Fellows member.

Joseph Yates of Jelly Cole, son of a wealthy Rocky Ford farmer, timed his own death to the minute.
