The senate voted unanimously to back Senator Smiths resolution urging treaties with maritime governments to regulate ocean lanes speed lifeboats wireless searchlights and other passenger craft equipment. Senator McCumber condemned Raynors Titanic remark and urged fair hearings before condemning anyone connected with the disaster.
Washington reports from Assistant Superintendent Sands in New York say about 3 460 mail bags were aboard the Titanic and lost with the wreck yielding an estimated seven million letters and packages. Five seaport clerks aboard the ship were last seen carrying mail to upper decks. three names are Oscar Woody, John Marsh, John Glinn and Jago Smith or B Williamson with Glinn and Marsh natives of New York.
Clarence Dayton Hillman, millionaire real estate dealer, was moved from city hall to McNeil's Island federal prison to begin a two and a half year term for using the mails to defraud. He asked to be taken to Tacoma by auto but was transferred by interurban train. He shaved his mustache and haircut.
In New York on April 20 the city counts twenty bride widows from the Titanic disaster. Only one couple, Mr and Mrs George Harder of Brooklyn, survived. Widowed brides include Mrs Daniel W Marvin and Mrs Lucien Smith, daughter of Congressman Hughes, with Mrs John Jacob Astor among the first cabin losses. A third cabin widow Adel Nasar, 21, lost husband and two brothers before her eyes.
Washington reports railroads launching a bid to raise freight rates across half the nation by reclassifying goods. Over 1,400 items would shift to higher classes, with increases from ten to 300 percent. State rail commissions in multiple states protest the tactic as a substantial rate hike hidden by terminology.

London April 20. The Columbia Gramophone Company plant at Erlafield a London suburb was destroyed by fire causing a 300000 dollar loss. Two nearby factories were damaged in the blaze.
Harry Hoefner, who confessed killing Mrs. William Merrill of Joppa, near Rosebud, was dragged from the Forsyth county jail by about 75 masked men. He was hanged on a vacant lot beside the Masonic temple after deputies failed to stop the mob. The case stirred Forsyth and Rosebud as crowds surged outside the courthouse and town jail.
Tornadoes ripped through Oklahoma and surrounding states on April 20, killing at least 12 with numerous injuries and unspecified hostages. Damaged towns include Hennessy Perry Yukon and nearby areas. several schools and homes were wrecked and communications disrupted. Other towns in Kansas reported injuries and fatalities as the storm moved northeast.
A severe snowstorm sweeps Cheyenne and Laramie County with up to four inches of water equivalent by ten last night. Forecaster Grant warns heavy moisture in the packed snow threatens livestock losses and the storm may prove the year’s most disastrous for animals.
In Pueblo, 15 year old Duncen A. Cattanach, assistant dex et agent, was shot by Daniel Davis a boarder at Earl Smith’s home when Cattanach mistook the residence for his own. Davis fired as the intruder started to reenter. Cattanach died soon after. his wife is away.
United States Senator William Lorimer is seriously ill at his Chicago home. Officials say illness tied to strain from primaries and senate investigation causing worry and affecting his health.
President Taft plans a warship deployment to the Mexican west coast to evacuate Americans from Sinaloa and nearby states amid unrest. The State Department says the move aims to protect U.S. citizens as tensions rise in the region. General Orono telegraphed concerns from Chihuahua detailing rebel actions and requests for recognition as belligerents.
Portland Oregon April 26 Wilson named Democratic favorite in Oregon primary with large plurality over Clark and likely to control delegation at the national convention Roosevelt leads Republican primary in Oregon and will control its delegation. News from Little Rock and North Carolina campaigns follow. The house passed a campaign publicity bill to regulate political committees and voluntary donations with penalties up to five thousand dollars and three years imprisonment.
