Secretly returned Western indictments charge a Chicago bonding firm and Colorado irrigation contractors with mail fraud linked to bond sales. Denver reports say officials withheld names awaiting Chicago approval as federal agents seek prominent irrigation figures in Colorado and Wyoming.
Paterson New Jersey April 10 Billy Sunday campaigns with a peach breakfast and a flowered dressing gown then vents at New York reporters calling them dirty liars. He declares he never asked newspaper support and challenges coverage as his party stays supportive.
A private Newark bureau reports urgent bids from British centers for over 400 workers to replace front line labor. The plan seeks American and British subjects with free transport and at least six months of work. Two hundred have already failed to meet requests. Liverpool area manufacturers sought 1000 workers per report.
In the Little Island of San Andres off Colombia's north coast, American Theodore Robinson and his daughter were slain after Dr. Z Pusey, a Memphis trained physician, killed Miss Robinson then her father before turning his gun on himself. The doctor had long visited the Robinson home and courted Miss Robinson.

Reports from Geneva indicate Austria will stay on the defensive to bolster the Italian frontier while Moscow dispatches claim Russia seeks peace terms. In the Carpathians, Russians report heavy artillery gains and resumed clashes as exhaustion halts major operations after two weeks of brutal mountain fighting.
Julius Kruttschnitt, railroad leader and Harriman aide, told the U S commission on industrial relations that the public should decide labor disputes. It claims 2,000 Villa dead and describes mass desertions, costly slaughter, and Villa ordering troops to slaughter those seeking shelter. Carranza forces engage near Sanchez as battles for Nuevo Laredo continue.
The United States envisions an inland coastal waterway linking Rio Grande to Boston. Sections from New York to Boston via Long Island Sound and Cape Cod are operable, with other links in varying stages across Chesapeake Bay to Florida and beyond. The project promises cheaper coastwise shipping, drainage improvements, and lower east coast freight costs.
By Alex Hastie the southern Louisiana region offers apossibilities for small farmers and fruit growers with fertile black loam, though needing phosphate and other nutrients. Land currently priced 15 to 30 dollars an acre could rise to 100 to 500 dollars with science based cultivation and organized promotion. Utah University authorities appeal to the Utah congressional delegation to aid in securing the release of Dr. Ludwig Meyn, a German professor held in an English detention camp. Meyn was recommended for a university post by Prof. Terild D. Arnoldson, who resigned and named Meyn as successor. The university will cover Meyn's expenses if release is obtained.
Sir Thomas O'Shaughnessy president of the Canadian Pacific railway in Chicago with Lady O'Shaughnessy forecast a full US prosperity rebound soon. He blamed last year's gloom on speculation not real economic causes and predicted a wave of immigration from Europe to the United States and Canada after the war.
