Wyoming Becomes Land of Many Rulers and Great Plains
Wyoming’s history spans rulers from Spain to the Republic and beyond with Fort Laramie marking early settlement in 1834. The state features mountains and vast grasslands, 6,000 feet average elevation, 10,000,000 acres of timber, and a climate praised for healthful, sunny days. Livestock farming dominates prosperity and growth, while irrigation supports agriculture across fifteen counties and four judicial districts.
