Galveston Storm Destroys Waterlogged City and Rail Bridges
A Houston dispatch reports Galveston struck by the heaviest storm since 1867 with streets filled by water and the Gulf beach submerged. Wrecks reported including a flooded city hospital and workers lost on a government breakwater. Bridges and rail lines across the bay washed away or under water as the bayfront island faces inundation.
