Western oil gusher in Salt Greek field spurs Wyoming rush
In Wyoming the English Oil company reports an initial oil gusher in the Salt Greek field near Casper igniting a wide rush. The first layer yields illuminating oil, with a second sand at 1 400 to 1 500 feet also producing oil before an eruption damaged drilling gear injuring foreman M Stocks. News spread fast, drawing crowds, and a fire near the derrick burned for hours as drilling continued.
