Springs Oct 10 The Stratton litigation appears to move toward a settlement with a court postponement to October 2nd. Attor neys indicate a $100,000 award to the plaintiff and payment of his lawyers, with all mitigation ceasing.
Amelia Haubens, wife of the vice president of the Omaha brewery, asphyxiated her two sons aged twelve and eight and then herself at their home during the night. The death occurred while her husband was away, and a sister-in-law discovered the bodies after smelling gas and breaking in.
Thousands of strikers gathered near the car barns as only mail cars operated. Governor Heard arrived and the city militia stood ready. A secret conference was held to seek a settlement of the strike.
In Frisco on Oct 10 the Grand Army of the Republic chose Dr A W Atchinson for surgeon in chief and Rev H D Shuey of Kansas as chaplain in chief. The next encampment is set for San Francisco in a year.

The Delaware and Hudson asks President Roosevelt to take action against the United Mine Workers under the Sherman act. David Wilcox, company head, says union activity has disrupted a large portion of Delaware and Hudson commerce and cites authorities to support the appeal.

Fred D. Hammond, chairman of the Wyoming Democratic State Central Committee, disowns the Richards article by R. A. Allard in the News Register. He condemns the publication, notes no prior approval, and warns that using the matter in campaigns could cost him his resignation.
Charles Cowley aged 17, angered by an invention, killed his mother with an axe in bed then felled his sister Belle and fatally wounded four other children. He maimed Adelaide Raymond Agnes, crushed a baby’s skull, and attacked brother James before being overpowered and disarmed by James and Harry with a chair.

In Omaha on October 10 the State Society of Labor and Industry debates a resolution urging the government to grant pensions to all males over 60 nationwide. The move reflects broader labor demands as the group meets in session.
