Mrs Dora McDonald widow of Michael Co McDonald and accused of murdering Webster Guerin the artist showed violent insanity today. She attempted asphyxiation by gas and leapt from a high window but was saved both times. Likely to be sent to an asylum rather than tried, authorities say.
Al Kaufman of Colma won a clear decision over Jack Twin Sullivan at Colma California after twenty five rounds. The bout was even through ten rounds but Kaufman took control from the sixteenth round, hammering Sullivan with lefts and rights to the jaw and never wavered.
Washington D C November 28 The secretary of the treasury announced that subscriptions to the 4 percent certificates of indebtedness of the act of June 18 1898 invited by the circular of November 18 1907 closed and no subscriptions received after November 27 will be considered Assistant treasurers have been instructed not to accept further offers The improved business conditions nationwide make it likely the secretary will not extend allocations beyond those already provided
President Roosevelt spent Thanksgiving at the Madison home near Montpelier Virginia deviating from his Pine Knot custom. He and his party toured the Madison mansion and heard stories about the historic Spot during the visit.
Football scores report two games with Colorado Colorado College facing Utah in Salt Lake City and University of Colorado battling School of Mines in Denver. Utah led Colorado College by ten points while Colorado won 5 to 4 against Mines.

Hills of the First Presbyterian Church delivered a moving sermon filled with thanks giving thoughts. Assisting were Rev. W. B. D. Gray, Rev. Robert L. Harris, Rev. B. C. Bickel and Rev. W. H. Fitzgerald among others.
Special service led by Rev F L Moore and Rev Hills with Miss Cressey directing a double quartette. The sermon reflects on the 1620 landing at Plymouth, early hardships, and the long tradition of Thanksgiving as a national holiday since 1863. It urges regular church unity and gratitude to the Creator.
Prognosticators flag a looming clash centered in New York between factions backing Governor Hughes and President Roosevelt. Beatrice Neb Nov 28 The jury found R Meade Shumway guilty of killing Mrs Sarah Martin wife of his employer near Adams on Sept 4. The panel recommended the death sentence after a 14 hour deliberation amid threats of lynching. The crime shocked the region and involved the missing $200. The victim’s husband found his wife’s mutilated body. Shumway was captured in Missouri and brought back to Nebraska for trial.
The Chicago Law and Order league asked police officials in nineteen large U S cities about Sunday saloon enforcement. Telegrams yielded five replies by tonight with more expected by noon tomorrow. A mass meeting is planned to push the Sunday closing campaign using these responses.
Fire and explosions wrecked the interior of the Borough bank in New York. Bank president C. F. Maxwell is dead, having committed suicide last Tuesday. Three officials are indicted as investigators probe whether the blast was an attempted robbery or to destroy evidence.
The three day sale of Stanford White collection concluded with large stained glass windows heavy marbles and the ice selling at modest prices. Spectators crowded the room including John D Rockefeller Jr who did not bid. Day three brought in 20057 dollars and the three day total reached 74004 dollars. Portraits from the collection are set to go on sale tomorrow evening.
Chicago reports a robbery at Kohl's saloon on West Chicago Avenue where three youths tied the proprietor and four customers, used a phonograph to drown cries, and fled as police pursued, with a suspect tried for aiding the robbery.
Secretary Cortelyou announces no further subscriptions to one year treasury certificates. About 35 million dollars worth will be issued with subscriptions from banks only, not individuals. Most allotment likely to back new issues and bank notes as the money market stabilizes.
The Tossett Brewing Company and Mullin Brewing Company each faced about $100000 in losses after a fire destroyed their malt houses. The plants stood a block apart. Investigators believe sparks from a passing locomotive started the Mullin blaze and gas from Tossett tanks fed the spread.
Special to The Leader from Rawlins Wyoming reports ranchman Jack Booth, famed for protesting tax assessments, kicked because taxes were too low after filing a formal protest. Booth demanded a higher levy but no change was possible as the assessment roll was complete.
On Franklin field Pennsylvania defeated Cornell 12 to 4 in the annual football game. The victory extends Penn’s dominance in the series, securing another win in their storied matchup.
Judge C. F. Templeton of Grand Forks district court ruled the North Dakota liquor seizure statute unconstitutional. The law sought to seize liquor imported for beverage use, challenging state authority over alcohol.
Noted bandmaster and composer John Philip Sousa is seriously ill at the Auditorium hotel Chicago from what doctors report as poisoning contracted in Milwaukee two days earlier. He was unable to conduct the concert with his band tonight and receives care from a physician and nurse.
