Pauncefote Funeral Held in Washington

Republican state convention chooses temporary chairman in Wichita

In Wichita on May 28 the Republican state convention elected George Cole as temporary chairman over Edward Greer. Cole then backed W. J. Bailey for governor and Cyrus Leland for pension commissioner, defeating Greer backed by Senator Burton and four other gubernatorial candidates. The vote was 525 to 499. The gathering featured a harmony speech by Congressman Long. Cole's win is seen as foretelling Long's Senate nomination, with speeches from Senator Burton and Congressman Curtis.

Friday is Decoration Day and the Women s Missionary Society of the Congregational church will hold its monthly meeting Thursday May 29 at 3 p m in the Sunday school room. Reports from Wyoming will be given by several ladies with a map of exercises in charge of Mr Gray. All are invited. Since January 1 1902 the county clerk issued 109 marriage licenses compared with 65 last year. A large number of Cheyenne weddings are expected next month.
