Loss of Sixty Lives at Holyoke Church Fire
Springfield May 27 The burning of the French Catholic Church at South Holyoke during a vesper service killed sixty six and left many fatally burned. The building had one entrance and a dense stairway crush led to the deaths. The Sisters of Mercy and Father Dufresne aided the wounded as the tragedy unfolded.
