Francisco Ser alto known as Peralta rode 25 mustangs 155 miles in 6 hours 58 minutes 43 seconds in a seven hour challenge. The event drew up to 15 000 spectators with 12 000 paying. Peralta received scientific care from Dr. Stanley while rival Parker endured rough treatment and poor conditions.

Terrible One Day Deaths Reported in Multiple Localities

Gloucester and other cities report a day of drownings and executions. Charles Cates and Wim Coombs drowned when a sail boat capsized near Albany. Andrew Fuchs, who killed William Shuamonds in Brooklyn and dismembered the body, has had his death sentence commuted to life imprisonment in San Francisco. Chas H Rowlan and others at Cornell Walsh factory in Worcester were drowned by a nail boat incident. Samuel Frost was executed in Worcester for the murder of his wife's brother Franklin Towne.
