Philadelphia May 23 Mayor Weaver dismissed David J. Smyth and B Costello from the Departments of Public Welfare and Public Works as he escalates the battle to block the 75 year United Gas Improvement lease for 26 million dollars. Elihu Root and James Gay Gordon join as counsel. Shoyer suspends Morrow during inquiry. Both ex-directors were paid 10 thousand dollars yearly and controlled about ten thousand office holders.
