A fragmented city directory shows shops and professionals on Ferguson and 16th streets. Entries list clothing, confectionery, soda water, dentists, dry goods, fruits and vegetables, furniture, bakers, and various firms with names and street addresses.
In Washington on May 11 the House introduced bills for free banking and currency stability, and Morrison’s six year presidential term. The Indian and river and harbor appropriations passed, totaling 84 million. Republican caucus set order of business incl Geneva award and finance bills with civil rights undecided. President urged sixteen day adjournment and armed forces to be disbanded as troops guard Little Rock legislature. Northern Pacific bonds authorized at five percent up to 350 thousand per mile.
Chicago May 11 Ridgeway Iowa destroyed by fire on Saturday night leaving between thirty and forty families homeless. Reports from Baring Cross Ark and Little Rock describe Civil War like skirmishes with Baxter's army, casualties, and calls for disbanding forces as marshall law tensions rise.
The Carlists under Don Alphonse suffered heavy casualties in a recent defeat, with depictions of ongoing clashes in mountain passes. Reports from London describe Concha advancing from Bilbao, while Elio decrees executions for dissenters. Other notices include a statewide fire loss, auctions, and various official dispatches from Memphis to Cheyenne.
New York reports the city debt increasing by more than four million dollars for April. Weston began a 500 mile walk from the American Institute hall this morning and aims to reach 115 miles today, finishing Saturday. In Buffalo, forests burn in Kin e and Wyowing counties destroying farm buildings and causing heavy property losses.
