William Jennings Bryan declined a United Christian party nomination at Davenport Iowa after letters showed he would only support Democratic platform. The convention nominated Rev Daniel Braxton Turney of Decatur Illinois, as Bryan said he would be bound by the Democratic platform and would not accept religious tests.
