Special to the Rawlins Journal Fort Washakie Wyoming April 20 Jack sub chief of the White River Utes and at Port Washakie to recruit for war joins the Shoshone Arrappahoe to war. He was arrested but broke away and hid in a tepee where a carbine was fired at him. A lariat attempt failed then a howitzer shell killed him and Sgt Richard Casey. Lt Morgan ordered the detachment back. The event drew Snakes and Arrapahoes as witnesses and Col Mason vows vigilance to prevent unrest. Sgt Casey had reenlisted after a term at Jefferson Barracks and joined his old company at Fort Washakie.
