Officers Duel Follows Misunderstanding. Two corpses found

In El Paso the bodies of Charles Jones and Charles Egan, mounted customs guards, were found in the Rio Grande dry bed after a midnight exchange of gunfire. Tracks suggest smugglers, but investigators now say inspectors Logan and Jones fought a fatal duel mistaken for smugglers. One pistol had two empty shells, the other one. Nearby residents report three shots heard. Logan was the late Major T. H. Logan’s son. Jones formerly worked on the San Antonio and Houston railroads.
